Amazon leases 12 planes to keep providing fast and free delivery to its customers.

After the pandemic took the world by surprise, and shops, businesses, and many other facilities had to close, people moved to online shopping. One of the biggest retailers in the world, Amazon, thrived during these challenging times.

Yesterday, the company announced that it had leased another 12 planes from Air Transport Services Group to expand its fleet. At the moment, Amazon has more than 80 aircraft at its disposal. One out of the 12 Boeing 767-300 is already part of the fleet, while the rest will be delivered next year.

In order to support its fleet, Amazon is opening regional air hubs, the latest being ready to open this summer in Florida.

But Amazon is not the only international retailer that has air carriers. FedEx, United Parcel Service, and DHL are using their planes to deliver all over the world. Out of the three, FedEx has the largest fleet with more than 650 planes.

Amazon stock price gained 0.2% during the regular trading hours, but it remained flat in the after-hours session.
