Self-driving cars represent the future for Toyota

The week debuted with a deal between the carmaker Toyota and Amazon. The agreement aims to help Toyota develop cloud-connected vehicles.

The automaker will start to install data communication modules in all new cars that will be sold in the US, Japan, and China by the end of 2020. After that, both companies will analyze the collected data using the Amazon Cloud unit.

This partnership comes somehow unexpected, as Toyota worked with Microsoft’s Azure platform since 2011. Currently, it is working with AWS and some of its subsidiaries.

As self-driving cars seem to be the future, Toyota wants to take advantage of its AWS collaboration to develop connected vehicles before the 5G technology becomes global.

However, Toyota is not the first company from the automotive sector to make such a deal. Volkswagen expanded its partnership with AWS to develop cloud-based software, which will allow customers to buy and sell industrial applications.
