UK now has the biggest number of deaths officially recorded in Europe.

The latest data from the Office for National Statistics shows a growth of 35% in the number of Covid-19 victims. This means that approximately 40,000 people died, with more than 4,600 deaths outside hospitals. In care homes, the number increased by 36% exceeding 2,500 people in just one week. The number of people passing away in hospitals dropped by 21% as of last week.

As of yesterday, in England alone, 28,272 residents died.

Both Italy and UK make efforts to test their population. Italy is in lockdown for much more time than the UK, and it conducted more than 2.2 million tests until May 5, while the UK tested over 1.3 million people.

UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, stated today that his goal is to test 200,000 or more people daily by the end of this month, but currently, capacity is overrun by demand. If everything goes according to plan, some lockdown measures will relax starting next Monday.

It all depends on how things develop this week "We have to be sure that the data is going to support our ability to do this, but that data is coming in continuously over the next few days."The number of tests is said to increase after rumors about the Covid-19 tracing app surfaced. According to some members of the Parliament, there is a problem regarding data privacy. The app is still in trials, and it is up to debate if people should get texts if they should isolate or not if they develop symptoms.

Since the pandemic started, the British benchmark, UK100, suffered the most significant drop since 1987, plunging 25%.
